Vertical Conditioning ( or Stairs Climbing )
Since very few of us are fortunate to be able to find the time to hike Bt Timah on week days, perhaps the best climbing training is vertical conditioning ( or stairs - steps climbing ) at a high rise building ( or if you're lucky, a Stairs-Master machine if you have access to a well-equipped gym ).
Our vertical conditioning session put a predominant stress on lower body muscles, where the action is when it comes to climbing & trekking. High steps stress more on the quadriceps ( thigh muscles ) while the stress of low steps is more on the calves. It's best to vary training with a series of both high & low stepping actions to ensure overall leg strength are built up uniformly.
If you've signed up for any of our trips or just looking for companions to keep fit, you're welcome to join our Vertical Conditioning GCS. Indeed, one needs not be a member to participate in our GCS program ... our activities are open to anyone and everyone.
Our Vertical Conditioning GCS are held on Tuesday evenings at Bras Basah Complex ( BBC ) from 7.30-9 pm. Kindly note that curently our VCS program is NOT in progress.
To join us, please meet at the 5th level of BBC at the open area infront of Systematic Commercial School or Residents' Corner ( RC ) at 7:30 pm in your physical training attire.
The nearest changing facilities ( washrooms ) are found at the the ground level of BBC near to the foodcourt, as well as nearby McDonald's and Raffles Hotel ( if you're coming from City Hall MRT ). After our training, we always proceed to have our dinner at the foodcourt next to Allson Hotel along Victoria Street..
