For trekking, the Autumn period from October-mid December is the best season followed by Spring (March-May) period which may be less than perfect with hazy sky, occasional showers and hail. However the rhododendrons and other beautiful flowers in bloom during Spring amply compensate for this. If you are interested in alpine plants at altitudes above 3000m, the best months to see them are August and September. If Buddhism holds your interest, then a visit in December is appropriate as the month is full of Buddhist festivals. Such a visit may well be the highlight of your trip.
