Pakistan
Overview
Pakistan - 'The Land of the Pure' - offers some of Asia's
most mind-bending landscapes, a kaleidoscope of cultures and a deeply
generous people. Long before Nepal was opened to the outside world, Pakistan
has already captured the attention of some of the world's most famous
mountaineers attracted to the land and the challenges it offer. It is
a land of snow-covered peaks and burning deserts, of fertile mountain
valleys and irrigated plains. Most of all, it is home to a kaleidoscope
of people, whose diversity and uniqueness offer a personal counterpoint
to the immensity of the physical terrain.
Pakistan is the hub of the World's greatest mountain
chains - the Karakoram, Himalaya, Hindu-Kush and the Pamir - and several
of the world's largest glaciers. These mountains form the greatest concentration
of high mountains in this planet as well as the greatest expanse of glaciers
outside the polar region. The northern areas are the most popular for
trekking, with Gilgit and Skardu being good starting points for trips.
The immense diversity and uniqueness of the mountain,
climate, and its people combines to make a trip to Pakistan a magical
attraction for the visitor who often return a second or more time.
