Mauritius
Overview
Mauritius is situated in the Indian Ocean, approximately
2,400 kilometres off the South East Coast of Africa. The island, which
is of volcanic origin, covers an area of 1,865 square kilometres ( or
almost 3 times the size of Singapore ). Coral reefs surround most of the
coast except the south. The central plateau is bordered by three mountain
ranges giving rise to a landscape of striking beauty.
Within its 720 square miles there are more than 1,000
miles of good roads lined with bougainvillea and flame trees, violet moonscaped
mountains, deep craters and red earth, wild waterfalls, villages hidden
in lush coastal vegetation, plateau towns with charming old colonial houses,
and endless fields of sugar cane plantations. This beautiful island also
happens to be blessed with some of the finest beaches and aquamarine lagoons
in the Indian Ocean and is a major tourist destination.
If you're searching for a tropical paradise where you
can laze the days away on sun-kissed beaches, indulge in wild and wonderful
water activities and treat yourself to a delicious range of culinary creations,
Mauritius fits the bill.
