What to Expect - Organised Treks

Group Size
The minimum is 4 persons up to a preferred maximum of 16 persons. You can sign up on your own (no additional surcharge) or with a few friends. If alone, we will pair you with another member of the same sex.

Cost
Our trips are priced for a group size of 10 persons and there is an additional surcharge of about $100 ( plus or minus ) for every 2 persons less should group size falls below this number.

Trip Extension
Members have the option to extend their tour after the fixed program. The expected rate for the extended stay will be dependent on the destination. Addtional charges will be advised upon request.

The Trek Arrangement
The trek may either be arranged on tea-house or full-organized camping basis. It is one that is self-sufficient with guides, cooks, and porters to take care of all the technical and logistical aspects of the trip. Everyday, the camp will be set up by the trekking staff, food cooked by trained and professional cooks, and the luggage and equipment carried by the porters. This leave you with just the walking part ( may not be as easy as it sounds as the physical exertions on certain days can be very taxing ... ).

Accommodation
On organised camping treks, tented accommodation is 2 persons to a spacious 3-person dome or A-shaped tent. On teahouse treks, accommodation will be in teahouses on twin-sharing rooms which are non-heated.

Meals
Three substantial meals with an afternoon tea session per day are provided. Special dietary needs can be catered for upon request.

Transport
Travel to and back from the trail heads will be in a variety of vehicles such as bus, vans or jeeps depending on the destination involved.

Trip Difficulty Rating
Our trips are graded from Easy to Expedition Grade levels. Rating for each trek is available on each individal trip page.

Good physical conditioning is required for all treks. In general, participants should be able to hike long distances of up to 6-7 continuous hours on some days, hence a certain level of fitness is required of you to enjoy the trip fully. A pre-trip physical conditioning programme consisting of at least 3 sessions per week for at least 3 months prior to trip departure is recommended for the average person. Group Conditioning Sessions ( GCS ) are implemented about 2 months before the trip. All registered participants are encouraged to join these complementary sessions.

What Other Important Notes Do I Need To Be Aware Of ?
Our treks are in essence, an OUTDOOR trip to relatively undeveloped Third World regions. In any adventure trip, there may be occasions of delay or change to itineraries, logistical breakdowns, or plain bad weather which would result in various inconveniences to participants. Occasionally, things that happen may require changes to be made. In such instances we will do our best to minimise the impact any inconveniences may have on you. We request that you undertake the trip with an open mind and an open heart ... only then would you be able to appreciate this type of travel.

Any Other Things Do I Need To Know?
Plenty - too exhaustive to be listed here. We will provide all confirmed participants who have paid a trip deposit with a comprehensive "BOAC's Trekking Guide" which provides all the necessary information to assist you in preparing for your adventure and make your trip a successful & an enjoyable one. Do note that this booklet is made available only to registered & paid participants.
