Langtang High Passes & Turquoise Lakes

Lying just south of Tibet, the Langtang Valley is spectacular region with its numerous glaciers and surrounding small snow-clad peaks of 5000-m or higher. The trail itself offers trekkers an exceptional diversity of scenery and culture as it winds its way from tropical lowlands farmlands and jungles to the alpine zone, passing through several settlements of the local hill people, the Tamangs and the Bhotias.

The mountain areas in the remote upper Langtang basin beyond the last habitation are nothing short of spectacular. From the last camp, interesting side trips can be made to bring you up high ridges with some very nice viewpoints of the surrounding alpine scene. As in the shorter Langtang Valley Trek (LVT), the trip offers the opportunity to trek high to above the snowline to a small snowcapped ridge (some prefer to call it a peak) known as Tsergo Ri (4984m) to give one the great feeling of being atop a small Himalayan peak with a fabulous 360 degrees panoramic view all around. If time allows, you can also trek up Kyanjin Ri, a lower ridge directly above Kyanjin Gompa at about 4773-m to give you a slightly different view.

From Langtang valley, we will cross over to the holy lakes of Gosainkund, sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists via 2 high passes - Ganja La (5106m) and Laurebina La (4610m). Ganja La is considered as one of the more steeper and difficult major passes in Nepal and crossing is possible only if weather permits. So there's going to be plenty of great scenery, cultural insights, and challenge in this trip!
