Mount Ophir Asahan-Sagil Traverse Trek

This is a shorter & more varied version of our classic Mount Ophir trek. The trek cover both the Malacca & Johor sides of the mountain. The ascent is by the less-taken Asahan Trail and descent by the 'normal' Sagil trail taken in our classic Ophir trek.

Trek members need to be very fit as we shall be trekking with a heavy full pack ( 8-15 kg ) with an overnight camp near the summit. Expected duration of the trek to campsite is about 6 hours.

As in our standard Ophir trek, you do not need to take leave for this outing. The trip arrangement is a comfortable one: by chartered vehicle to bring you all the way right to the foot of the mountain.

Altho no technical skills are required, trekking Mount Ophir is a physically demanding challenge. The trek is not advisable for a person who has been inactive for some time. To join, all participants are advised to register early and join our weekly GCS to tune up their fitness first.

Summit Trails: Mount Ophir can be climbed from either the Malacca or Johor side. From Malacca, the trail starts at the Asahan village near the reservoir and this is more straight forward and shorter compared to the Johor side. The trail from Johor starts near Sagil village beside a cascade of waterfall within the grounds of Gunung Ledang Resort.

Arrangement Includes: Trek leader(s), private charter van transport, group camping gear, personal accident insurance, local ranger/mountain guide, all meals on trek.

The climate is tropically humid and a trek in such condition is physically draining. The night in camp can be chilly in the early morning just before dawn. Everyone needs to be prepared for bad weather with basic waterproofing gear ( ponchos, rain-coats, even umbrellas are helpful ...! ). Waterproofing for your backpack is a must.

The trek up to camp can be very slippery when it rains. Having a pair of good hiking boots will make a lot of difference and gives you better grip on wet / muddy grounds. A walking stick is especially useful in such conditions. Those going to summit need to be prepared to handle more technical terrain such as pulling yourself up ( and down ) 2-storey high boulders using fixed ropes so the trek is obviously not for those with height phobia.
