Mount Ophir ( Gunung Ledang ) Trek - Asahan Trail
Gunung Ledang ( or Mount Ophir as it is otherwise better
known ) is the most visited mountain in Malaysia. It is also a favourite
training ground for those with higher summit aspirations in the higher
ranges. The mountain offers several nature trails to its summit, some
lovely waterfalls, and modern facilities for camping and picnicking
near its base at.
For this trek, we will be ascending by the less-taken
Asahan Trail from the Malacca side of the mountain. The trail starts
besides the Asahan waterwork near Asahan village and is more straight
forward and shorter compared to the Johor side. Trek members need to
be very fit as we will
be trekking with a heavy backpack to our campsite near the summit for
the 1st day - 8 hours of trekking is expected.
As in our standard Ophir trek by the Sagil
route, you do not need to take leave for this outing. The
trip arrangement is a comfortable one: by chartered vehicle to bring
you all the way right to the foot of the mountain.
Altho no technical skills are required, trekking Mount
Ophir is a physically demanding challenge. The trek is not advisable
for a person who has been inactive for some time. To join, all participants
are advised to register early and join our weekly GCS
to tune up their fitness first.
Good News! : We have now included porter(s) for our 2D1N camping trek to Mt Ophir. Gone are the days where participants need to help carry the heavy tents and over size pots. You can now enjoy the trek without having to bear the burden, you will only need to carry your personal load:clothings, toiletries, sleeping gear (mattress & bag). Don't hesitate anymore, join us today !

The climate is tropically humid and a trek in such condition is physically
draining. The night in camp can be chilly in the early morning just
before dawn. Everyone needs to be prepared for bad weather with basic
waterproofing gear ( ponchos, rain-coats, even umbrellas are helpful
...! ). Waterproofing for your backpack is a must.
The trek up to camp can be very slippery when it rains. Having a pair
of good hiking boots will make a lot of difference and gives you better
grip on wet / muddy grounds. A walking stick is especially useful in
such conditions. Those going to summit need to be prepared to handle
more technical terrain such as pulling yourself up ( and down ) 2-storey
high boulders using fixed ropes so the trek is obviously not for those
with height phobia.
