Mandai Forest Day Hike
You will probably not know that besides Bukit Timah Hill and MacRitchie Reservoir, there is this little pocket of forest in the catchment area smack right in the middle of this island state.
Hikers will walk between 5 to 8 km of forested trails and some built up areas. The trail also involves a few stream crossings, which is a rare scene here and also some hilly terrain through some of the deeper forests of Singapore that is quite unknown to many. Not only will hikers enjoy the pristine and serenity of the forest, you might be able to spot the rare pitcher plants that are not commonly found here. There are only three recorded species found in Singapore. One will be surprised to find such place as this in the hustle and bustle of a tiny nation and a forest that we can truly call our own.
This hike finishes at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve ( BTNR ) visitor centre where there is wash room facility and a little store selling nature books, outdoor gear as well as soft drinks. There is also a public car park at the visitor area for those who wishes to drive park their car after or before the hike.
You don't really need a '2.4 km in under 9 minute' kind of fitness to enjoy this hike. So why wait? Join us !

As in any trek in Malaysia, the climate is tropically hot & humid and a hike in the jungles under such condition can be physically draining for the first timers and the unfit. Everyone needs to be prepared for bad weather with basic waterproofing gear ( ponchos, rain-coats, umbrellas are helpful ...! ) and insect repellents will be especially useful.
If rainy, waterproofing is a must and the hike will be wet, and maybe be muddy & slippery so having a pair of good hiking boots will make a lot of difference and gives you better grip on muddy / slippery grounds. We will not stop anyone from wearing sandal but one must be aware that the exposed toes are not protected, neither are the ankles.
Drinking water is a must bring and minimum 1.5 to 2 liters are recommended.
